The NH Constitution requires the State of NH to pay for adequate public education, as confirmed by the NH Supreme Court. Eight out of our ten Derry GOP State Representatives voted against HB 651, which would have increased state aid for our schools by around $3,000 per student. Our State Representatives made it possible for the State to reduce the per student amount it now sends to Derry. The state’s funding for public schools does not cover an adequate education.
The difference lands squarely on your property tax bill!

Derry’s ten Republican State Representatives all voted for HB 115, to remove ANY income cap to qualify for vouchers (vetoed by the governor).
Most worrisome is that their votes did nothing to address the fact that 80% of these “gifts” of around $5,000 per child of public money go to families that were already sending their kids to private schools.
WHO PAYS FOR THESE EXTRA CURRICULAR EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITES?
-
- Summer Camp Tuition – paid by family budgets for public school family or our taxes through vouchers for private/home school families.
- Drivers’ Ed – paid by family budgets for public school family or our taxes through vouchers for private/home school families
- Skiing – paid by family budgets for public school family or our taxes through vouchers for private/home school families
- Golf – paid by family budgets for public school family or our taxes through vouchers for private/home school families.
Wouldn’t you love to see public funds used to reduce your property tax bill?
